Last month, I was stoked to finish up this frame mod by installing Paragon Machine Works Track Dropouts (w/opener!). This was a standard road frame with had horizontal dropouts that the customer wanted to replace with rear facing horizontal dropouts for a flip-flop hub.
I cut some material off so fit them in the slots, and they brazed in great. I love the way they look, and I'm sure they'll get a lot of use (both as an axle mount and bottle opener!)
The shop space is coming together, I got the drawing desk set up, build a storage ladder, and started working on a new trailer project. Stay tuned!
October in the shop: I made a few custom retail racks for hanging tires, with a natural 'patina' finish for Cycles for Change. These are available at $45 each for the standard size which holds 8 to 24 tires depending on the sizes (about 24" of hanging space) and can be spray or powder coated any color or clear. The new space is located in the Seward neighborhood at the back of Cycles for Change at the 2525 E. Franklin building, across from Triangle park and the Co-op Creamery building.
I am still setting up shop, and should have everything set up and running for a "grand re-opening" Mid-September. In the mean time, I am designing a Custom Road/Gravel Commuter that I am super excited about, and taking in small repairs, like this one:

Our time at the "Shasta Building" in Longfellow has come to an end
The building is getting torn down to be rebuilt into a school (here's the full article), and that means we are setting up shop at new location! I'm stoked on the potential at the new spot and as soon as it is all solidified, I will be stoked to announce it next month. The only bad news it that the shop will not be reopening until sometime in July once everything is moved and set back up. Keep an eye on the blog, website, and social media accounts for the announcement and opening party.

"New Plans for Old Canada Dry Bottling Plant
At the corner of 28th St. E and 36th Ave. S, in the Longfellow neighborhood, sits a cream brick building with a beautifully curved glass block entrance. The building, designed by Walter M. Cory of New York and built by Fred R. Comb Co. of Minneapolis and the George J. Grant Construction Co. of St. Paul, was completed in 1946 as a bottling plant for the Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Inc. The plant, which served a newly formed Minneapolis Division for the firm, provided 70,000 sq ft of floor space for the bottling of ginger ale, sparkling water, cola, lemon drinks, and other carbonated beverages, and employed 60 people.
In 1948 the building was sold to the Mutual Life Insurance Co. of New York, but was leased by Canada Dry through 1970. From 1971-1979 the building was leased by Shasta Beverages, another American soft drink manufacturer.
Following use by the bottling companies, the building was occupied by Western Electric Co. from 1981-1986 and then by a multitude of small businesses and artists studios including graphic designers, blacksmiths, and musicians, which is how the building remains in use today.
Recently, Hiawatha Academies, a Minneapolis charter school, purchased the building. This summer they plan to start construction on a new high school, for which they plan to reuse close to half of the existing building, including the glass block entrance."
Yoko moved to the North Shore from Brooklyn and had two bikes up there; a single speed Bowery which was great in the city yet impractical in the Sawtooth Mountains, and a light aluminum GT road bike, that was too small. So, he asked me to put together a frame that would fit him, much like the GT. He climbed on the Maiden Voyage, my personal hand built road bike, and decided for fit and geometry, that was it. I picked a 2xOS tube set from Nova Cycle Supply to support his strong build (he was a bike messenger in NYC) as well as bigger tire options for out in the boonies, and got to work. Here's some pics from the process. I'll post pics of the painted frame and fork as well as the finished bike after it is finished next week.
My new Benchmark frame fixture just arrived, and I put it together in about an hour and a half. I love the simplicity, and the craftsmanship is impressive. I hope to use this to build a double oversized road frame for Yoko, and I will be reviewing the fixture and posting lots of photos.
